Hosted by Jack Benny, this marked the very first time that the ceremony was held at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre. Tom and Jerry were the first well-known non-Disney cartoon characters to earn an Oscar. And also, supporting actors and actresses have taken full sized oscars instead of plaque. Hal B. Wallis earned an Irving G. Thalberg award while George Pal got an honorary award for inovating Puppetoons.
