Steve Martin is the host of the show in the Shrine Auditorium. This is the last show held at either the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Shrine Auditorium, before the Oscars finally got a home of their own for next year's show. Dino deLaurentis got the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, while two Honorary Oscars were given out.
