Honoring movies released in 1936, it was held at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. It was hosted by George Jessel. For the frist time, the awards for Best Supprting Actor and Best Supporting Actress have been awarded. My Man Godfrey became the first film ever to earn all 4 acting noms (but it didnt win anything). The Live Action Short shave now been divided into reel categories. 2 Honorary Oscars were given: One for W. Howard Greene and Harold Rossen for cinematography work on The Garden Of Allah and one for The March Of Time newsreel for innovating the newsreel and keeping in touch to motion pictures while a Scientific and Technical Award was given to Douglas Shearer and the MGM Sound Department for the development of a practical two-way horn system and a biased Class A push-pull recording system.
