Jimmy Kimmel gets his first gig as an Oscar host, as a way to improve ratings from the previous year's show. The diversity issue has finally being resolved with all forms of African-Americans, Asians, Middle Easterners, and Hindus all getting a chance at the prize. Unfortunately, some refused to attend due to the U.S. Immigration ban law courtesy of new U.S. President Donald Trump. In the end of the show, a moment of humiliation came for announcing the Best Picture winner when presenter Warren Beatty was inadvertently given the second copy of the Best Actress envelope by Brian Cullinan, an accountant of Pricewater Cooper(the Hollywood-based accounting firm responsible for the vote counting and envelope secrecy), who got distracted taking pictures of Emma Stone and tweeting on social media, violating rules of not doing social media during the ceremony. This error lead to "La La Land" being announced Best Picture by mistake before "Moonlight" was revealed to be the REAL best picture winner. It was a disgrace that jeopardized PwC's 80 year relationship with the Academy. Just days after the ceremony, PwC chewed out Cullinan and his partner Martha Ruiz (who sealed the case and left) through a letter and statement, while also delivering a public apology on behalf of all the employees. The Academy later punished the two accountants with a lifetime ban from the ceremony, humiliated. They were also forced to take drastic measures to prevent anymore mishaps. They have instituted a cellphone ban for the ceremony and have ordered the required hire of a third accountant to supervise the delivery of the envelopes. Meanwhile, Honorary Oscars have been given out to actor Jackie Chan for charming audiences with his dazzling athleticism, inventive stunt work and boundless charisma in more than 30 martial arts movies, editor Anne V. Coates for working side b side with many leading directors on an impressive range of films for over 60 years, casting director Lynn Stalmaster for applying his talents to more than 200 featured films, and documentarian Frederick Wiseman for illuminating lives in the context of social, cultural, and government institutions.
