For the first time the Oscar for Best Sound Recording was recorded. Another first is that The Love Parade became the first to get nominations but no wins. And finally, All Quiet On The Western Front became the first winner to nab both Best Picture and Best Director; a feat that would be followed for generations to come. This year's ceremony honored films released between August 1, 1929 and July 31, 1930. Conrad Nagel was the host and the show was held at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.
